Focus Stealers

Every night I seem to fight the same battle. After eating a healthy dinner, I hit the recliner and turn on the TV. Then temptation sets in. Here they come, commercial after commercial enticing me to eat. Tacos, donuts, burgers, chicken...they all sing their siren song, inserting their images into my weakening will and mind. Before I know it, I'm rooting through the refrig looking for a late night snack and losing my battle to eat healthy.
It's easy to lose focus in life. I've found four things that tend to steal my focus:
1. Time - the longer life goes on, the harder it is to maintain focus
2. Routine - sameness dulls the senses and dims our focus
3. Difficulty - Problems bend our perspective, distorting our focus
4. Life - as long as you're breathing, there is always pressure to change your focus.
Hebrews 3:1 offers a great suggestion for maintaining focus: "Fix your thoughts on Jesus..." When we keep our eyes on Jesus, we're more likely to run and complete the race of faith. Keeping our focus on him keeps us on track in life.
Here is a simple exercise that will help you fix your thoughts on Jesus and maintain your focus. Every hour this week, take a moment and think of Jesus. Invest just a minute of each hour, focus on him, and watch what happens with your faith.
