Cross My Heart, Hope to Die, Stick a Needle In My Eye

Admit it, you said this when you were a kid. You made a promise to a friend and added this bizarre oath to assure you would keep your word. If you broke your promise, you would die, and/or stick a needle in your eye. For me, I'd rather do the die thing than the needle thing.

The reason we said such crazy things as kids is we knew we weren't always honest. We knew we didn't always keep our promises. Sometimes we lied. We knew lying was part of being human.

Hebrews 6:18 has an interesting phrase that says, unlike us, "it is impossible for God to lie." That's great news. God always keeps his promises. Always!

Verse 18 goes on to say that God's eternal honesty gives us two things - hope and encouragement. Because we know with certainty that God always keeps his promises, we can build our lives upon his promises.

No matter what life throws at us,"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." You can stand on God's promises, and that's no lie.
